Maintenance Mechanic

The incumbent must possess a wide variety of skills and knowledge associated with carpentry, plumbing, painting, metal fabrication, mobile equipment operation, and welding.
The journeyman level carpentry skills required as a maintenance mechanic will include sheet rocking, installing metal grids, suspended ceilings, installation of plaster lath, replacement of built-up and shingle roofing, installation of metal/wood windows, doors and frames, floor and ceiling tile, and repair wood flooring.
Performs various skills and techniques in repairing, construction, remodeling, and maintaining a variety of wooden structures, representative of administrative and office buildings, warehouses and storage sheds, troop housing, technical and shop structures, and industrial related facilities.
Installs carpet, cove base, seamless flooring, pour concrete slabs and sidewalks, etc.
Journeyman skills will also require building wood equipment and cabinetry.
The mechanic will be required to install, repair, adjust, basic components of the hospital plumbing system, repair faucets, sinks, commodes, sewer and water lines, and valves.
Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and repair work such as that which involves removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal system such as dirty traps, sections of broken pipe and tile, clogged pipe and fixtures, and leaky faucets and drains.
Installs/repairs pressure producing valves, hot water heaters and/or storage tanks, circulating pumps, drinking fountains, laundry tubs, urinals, dish washers, sump pumps, and water closets.
Uses hand and power tools common to the trade.
The mechanic will be required to perform new wall taping and mudding, sheetrock repairs, and plaster/tile repairs.
Paints and primes surfaces on new construction and maintains areas during routine inspections.
The mechanic works with both new and existing items requiring demolition, removal, installation, modification, and alteration of metal structures and components.
Proficient in using a backhoe/front loader, trenching machine, and forklift.
