Computer Operator Sr
The Computer Operator Sr is under general supervision and according to established policies, procedures and equipment operating instructions, operates computer and peripheral equipment to complete scheduled jobs in a timely manner and monitors systems for performance, functionality and connectivity.
Establishes project runs in accordance with specifications and monitors the console.
Assists with the preparation of the daily shift report, including posting of entries to the shift notes, problems log, activity report, and downtime reports.
Provides accurate shift information to the appropriate incoming shift personnel, clarifying all outstanding problems and present status.
The essential functions of the Computer Operator Sr include the following:
Interfaces with the programming departments as required.
Monitors system activities, resources and performance.
Reboots interfaces and examines error logs.
Pulls scratch tapes, vault lists and file tapes.
Archives all report files and data files.
Monitors and diagnoses system problems, resolving problems according to established policies and procedures.
Documents all problems (hardware, application, facility, etc.
).
Takes corrective action as required and reports these occurrences to Supervisor.
Assists users with terminal and system problems.
Maintains log of service calls and user requests.
Runs system back-ups, job control, output, and distribution.
Places equipment service calls to the respective vendors, including appropriate follow-up.
Adheres to and enforces Computer Room procedures/policies.
Assists in training of operations personnel as directed.
Maintains knowledge of current operating procedures and standards.
The ideal Computer Operator Sr will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
